Cars in German City Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were alerted by a resident who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located many other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.

Local authorities said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for information.

A high-ranking representative stated the incident rendered him without words and had to be addressed promptly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
